The Holy Roman Empire

One of the perceptions of the Society of Phred is that western culture is still being dominated by the Holy Roman Empire; That Roman Culture is a Slave Culture; Which makes it destructive on individual rights, the most critical of these being the right to life. The rules of the deity that the emperor Constantine created include “Thou  shalt not kill.”, yet Roman culture uses killing as a tool throughout the culture, as to most western cultures today.

We are told that Constantine created The Roman Catholic Church in an acceptance of the Divine nature of Jesus of Nazareth, elevating him to godhood as a part of “the trinity”. I submit that the church was created to defeat the attempt of Jesus of Nazareth to free his people from Roman domination.

I have read the King James version of The Bible cover to cover several times during my lifetime and it has been clear every time that most of the bible is a history of the Sons of Abraham, the Tribes of Israel, or as they are known today, the Jewish Culture. This cultural/ethnic group can trace their culture back to before the time the of Ancient Egyptian culture. The culture of the Tribes of Israel has survived repeated enslavement by various cultures and still maintained their cultural identity.

So, the bible, as a history, tells two major historical tails. The first is the story of how Moses freed the Children of Israel from the Pharaoh of Egypt and the consequences of that freedom. The second story is the story of Jesus of Nazareth and his attempts to free his people from Roman domination. It is this story that has been distorted into a visitation by God to men through his Son Jesus Christ. From the distorted version of this story he succeeded in “saving us from our sins” by dying on the cross. In fact this story just change the reason he died in such a way as to defeat the actual purpose of his death.

While I’m not going to say that Jesus of Nazareth was not a religious man because the culture he was raised in was a religious one and he was a member of that society. His message however was not a religious one but was of a social nature instead. “Love thy neighbor as thy self” is not a statement about Man’s relationship to God, but is instead a statement about Man’s relationship with Man. That relationship is a social one. In his culture God directed Man’s social relationships within the Ten Commandments, and Roman culture didn’t follow any of those commandments.

Remember that the story begins with his humble birth, in a manger because there was no room in the Inn. Why was there no room? Were Mary and Joseph outcast for some reason? No, not at all. They were just late coming to town to pay their taxes. Religion ignores this fact and focuses on the three kings that come to visit guided by angels. Three kings who were, by the way, sent to find the “King of the Jews” for Herod, who wanted to get rid of him. But taxes and money play a recurring role in this story. Later in his life, in answer to “Should we pay our taxes?” he says “Render unto Caesar those things which are Caesar’s and to God those things that are God’s”.

Now the coin of the era had Caesar’s bust engraved on one side of the coin. They clearly all belong to Caesar according to Jesus, and if he asks for them back we should give them to him. What are the “things of God”? Well, what has God given us that he didn’t give to the animals? Primarily Free Will and Rational Thought…the ability to understand our world. The other thing the Roman culture takes from Man is his free will. Forcing him into slave behaviors that only serve Caesar.

We are told that he turned the Pharisees and Sadducees out of the temple, physically driving them out. Who were these people, and why was he so mad at them? As I understand the culture these two groups of people held the position in Jewish society similar to that of a social worker. Their job was to care to that section of the population that was having a hard time in life by connecting them with the support they needed that might be found in the broader community. This particular group were in the temple practicing the Roman method of money lending with interest, breaking social tradition and further enslaving his people,

Part of the problem reading this story is the fact that the original texts have been translated, and those translations translated, and at each step those translations have been culturally biased. But, looking at the fundamentals of the story tells a different tail from the one we are taught in church.

The fact that Constantine felt the need to institutionalize Jesus’ message in order to gain control of that message, indicates that he thought he was losing the battle and Jesus was slowly eroding the power of the state. His deification of Jesus and institutionalization of the faith under the control our the priesthood brought the whole set of concepts under the control of the State.

This last institutionalization of state supported religion sealed the control of the citizenry by the mechanisms of the State, defeating the freedom movement by misdirection and obfuscation.
